What's CITY Talking About?

🏩 We’re Always Here for Dolly Parton News
Dolly Parton made many announcements at CMA Fest Thursday, including plans to build the Songteller Hotel, which will include a museum, in Downtown Nashville within the next few years. The museum will house genuine articles from her life, like her childhood coat of many colors. She also announced a planned Broadway musical, a new album, and a Dolly wine. We’ll drink to that! - In her speech, Dolly mentioned that she’s most proud of the Imagination Library. My daughter just aged out that program, and the books we received from it gave her so much joy. If you have a child 5 and under, make sure to sign up for free books! [Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library]
😞 Plaza Mariachi Foreclosure
Plaza Mariachi, the popular Hispanic shopping and culture center, is under foreclosure, with the foreclosure sale set for July 2. According to the story (originally broken by the Nashville Banner), owner Mark Janbakhsh, who was charged in 2022 with conspiracy to commit bank fraud, issued a statement that the building will not close, and he’s working with other lenders to restructure the financial terms. Plaza Mariachi, which hosts numerous community events, is a vital part of South Nashville. Hopefully it can be saved. [WKRN]
🏳️🌈 Y’all Does Not Currently Mean All
As Nashville’s Pride festival approaches, a new report released by Out Leadership reveals Tennessee’s dismal quality of life for LGBTQ+ folks. Tennessee is one of the least LGBTQ+ friendly states, ranking 45 out of 50, ahead of only Oklahoma, South Carolina, Louisiana, and Arkansas. I know Nashville tends to be a lot more queer-friendly than the rest of the state, but we gotta do better. [Out Leadership]
🥘 CMA Fest Donates Food
Over the weekend, Musically Fed donated leftover food from backstage and catered events at CMA Fest to nonprofit organizations around Nashville, like Room in the Inn, Matthew 25, Safe Haven, and Operation Stand Down. Musically Fed has partnered with other big musical events in the past. What a neat program. [NewsChannel 5]
