June 18, 2024 · – Margaret Kingsbury
Happy Tuesday, folks! I’m opening with sad news: Joe Elmore, host of Tennessee Crossroads, has died at age 80. I remember watching him on the show during summer vacations as a kid. Our hearts go out to his family and friends. 😢
Thanks so much to our exclusive launch sponsor Tecovas, our Western wear faves, for their support.

🏆 Local Swimmer Sets a World Record
The Olympics have yet to begin, but local Gretchen Walsh is already making waves. 🚨 What Happens When You Can’t Trust the Police?
In the latest MNPD drama, the department insinuates that a whistleblower, retired Lt. Garet Davidson (whose recent complaint about misconduct within the department also made headlines), leaked the Covenant School shooter’s journals. However, MNPD has a disturbing history of deception when accusations come from within the department. This is an excellent summary of the last decade of issues. [Nashville Scene]

🍽️ Long Delays in Processing SNAP Benefits
Tennessee’s nutrition benefits program, SNAP, has been riddled with administrative issues, from staffing shortages to computer system glitches. This has led to a long turnaround time for many applying to the program or who are updating their information. In the last year, enrollment has dropped 15.2%. Food access has got to be made a priority. [Tennessee Lookout]
