✈️ BNA’s drinking problem

July 31, 2024 · – Margaret Kingsbury

Good mornin’! I hope you’re finding ways to stay cool amid our dangerous heat temperatures this week.

Thanks to our exclusive launch sponsor Tecovas, our Western wear faves, for their support.

What's CITY Talking About?

🤠 Honky-Tonk Celebrates 25th Anniversary

One of Lower Broadway’s most beloved honky-tonks is celebrating its 25th anniversary: Robert’s Western World. On today’s City Cast Nashville podcast episode, Producer Marie Cecile Anderson chats with GRAMMY-nominated musician Smilin' Jay McDowell about Robert’s origins and his favorite memories from the past 25 years. 🚨 Nashville’s Crime Rates Improve

Compared to 2023, most crime rates in Nashville have fallen, including homicides (down 13%). Crime rose during the pandemic, but has mostly returned to pre-pandemic levels, with the exception of motor vehicle theft. [WKRN]

🍺 BNA’s Drinking Problem

Unlike BNA, most airports do not have a broad liquor license. With a plethora of drinking options, public intoxication arrests at the airport have been on the rise. [📺 Nashville Banner]

🗳️ 5th District Primary Gets Competitive

One of the most heated elections in the Aug. 1 primary is for the Republican 5th District nomination between Metro Nashville Councilmember Courtney Johnston and Rep. Andy Ogles. The Conservatives With Character PAC, composed of moderate conservatives, has spent $640,000 as of July 24 in campaigns for Johnston. [Tennessee Lookout]

Where Is It?

It’s time for our weekly photo challenge, where I show you a cool place around Nashville, and you try to guess where it is.

Let’s start by reviewing last week’s challenge and winner:

Congrats to Parvathi "Parv" Santhosh-Kuma for correctly guessing where this picture was taken! If you head to Wedgewood Houston’s Six10 Merritt or The Finery, you’ll see this cool mural. There are several murals in that area to check out.

I hope you have an inspiring day, Parv!

I couldn’t find much information about this mural online, so if you know anything about it, let me know!

Now onto this week’s challenge:

A giant blue guitar sculpture surrounded by flowers on a concrete pathway. Behind it, there's another white guitar statue.

Nashville has lots of guitar art, but where are these two sculptures located?
