Good mornin’, and happy hump day! Quick heads up about the Black Kitchen Initiative grant program, which has been awarded to local Black restauranteurs in the past. Applications are due by Sept. 15. Spread the word!

Thanks to our exclusive launch sponsor Tecovas, our Western wear faves, for their support.

🟠 What Does a Code Orange Air Quality Alert Mean?

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has issued a code orange air quality alert for the last several days in Davidson County. The ozone layers are increasing due to the hot and dry weather. Code orange means people with respiratory illnesses like asthma as well as active children and adults should limit their time outside. 🌊 A Lack of Flood Preparedness

In 2021, a catastrophic flood tore through Waverly, killing 20 people after a record-breaking downpour. Weather advocates and state agencies have tried to get funding to better handle our chaotic weather, but Gov. Bill Lee has resisted providing additional money for weather preparedness resources. 🧑‍⚖️ TennCare Violated Laws

On Monday, a federal court ruled that TennCare had unlawfully terminated coverage for thousands of Tennesseans, primarily poor and disabled families. This ruling comes in response to a 2020 class-action suit, though problems with TennCare continue. [Tennessee Lookout]

Where Is It?

It’s time for our weekly photo challenge, where I show you a cool place around Nashville, and you try to guess where it is.

Last week’s challenge and winner:

A white octopus mural with geometric black shapes on it.
This octopus is a little lost. (Whitney Pastorek / City Cast Nashville)

This tentacled fella is on the exterior of the POP building in East Nashville on Gallatin Road. The restaurant owners of Little Octopus painted the mural, and though the restaurant is no longer there, our octopus traffic controller remains.

🐙 Congrats to Deb Varallo, Emily Waltenbaugh, and Dominique Marlow for correctly guessing the location of this octopus mural! May your day be as serene as a sunset at sea.

Now onto this week’s challenge:

A giant Pac-Man arcade game in a mall.
Have you played this? (Whitney Pastorek / City Cast Nashville)

All right my gamer friends, where is this Pac-Man arcade machine located? Reply to this email or click the button below to tell me!

Have a cool picture for a Where Is It segment? Send it to me to see if your fellow Nashvillians know where it is!
