Late Thursday, and without a stated reason, Nashville-based Acting U.S. Attorney Brian McGuire filed a notice to withdraw prosecutors from their ongoing criminal investigation of Republican Congressman Andy Ogles, who represents parts of Nashville. Ogles has been under investigation for potential campaign finance fraud from his 2022 congressional run. The case will now be handled out of the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. Bill Haslam, his wife Crissy, and University of Tennessee Lady Vols superstar Candace Parker have submitted a bid for a Nashville-based WNBA team, with full support from Mayor Freddie O’Connell. The proposed Tennessee Summit would become the league’s 16th team and the state’s only professional women’s sports franchise. The WNBA will be considering proposals over the next few months.
