💸 Should downtown get more money?

February 7, 2025 · 💌 Margaret Kingsbury

I’ve got a serious question for y’all this morning. Who’s going to win the Super Bowl on Sunday? 🏈

I always root for whichever team is named after a bird, but don’t let me sway your answer.

🏙️ A Feisty Metro Council Meeting

A memorandum of understanding that would move surplus funds from the Metro Codes Department to the Night Mayor’s office to help curb downtown noise and alcohol violations caused a stir at this week’s Metro Council meeting. We’ve got the scoop on today’s City Cast Nashville podcast. [🎧 City Cast Nashville]

The Corner Bar, a beloved Midtown hub, will close in March after 20 years. Nashville-based development company Giarratana is razing the bar to make room for a 17-story mixed-use tower. [Nashville Post via Nashville Scene]

🚨 AG Immigrant Crime Report Lacks Context

The Tennessee District Attorneys General Conference released their first report documenting any crimes committed by those who could not prove their citizenship. The report shows 2,719 individuals committing crimes across the state, with 11.6% of those crimes being violent. It’s unknown how many of these people were noncitizens, however. [Nashville Banner]

Thanks to everyone who sent me pics of their adorable furballs! I will share them soon, but first, I thought I’d share a photo of my cockatiel sibling Spike. Santa gave Spike to one of my older sisters for Christmas, but I’m afraid Spike had other plans. He quickly identified the superior sister and became my BFF. In every family video, he can be heard frantically shouting “Margaret” in the background. Spike miraculously lived until 31, only narrowly missing the Guinness World Record for the oldest living cockatiel.

Keep sending me your pet pics to share! Just reply to this email 🫶
