What's CITY Talking About?

🏠 Baby Boomers Buy More Houses

Baby boomers dominate our housing market, with 42% of home sales, while millennials make up 29%. Baby boomers have more cash for higher-priced homes, while a lack of starter homes prevents millennials from buying. Nashville’s median monthly mortgage is $2,730, while median rent is $1,827. 📚 Book Bans Increase in the ‘Burbs

In March, the Rutherford County Library System Board voted to remove all books and materials for minors with transgender themes. Sumner County officials have now proposed a similar library book ban. Hendersonville Public Library Director Alycia Neighbours has resigned, citing the “increasing demand to enforce policies that undermine both our Friends of the Library and the integrity of our collection.” [The Tennessean]

💸 Local Wetlands Loses Grant

The Trump administration has terminated a grant to restore Tennessee State University’s Tiger Wetlands because an organization that supports historically Black universities funded it. The 40 acres are home to a variety of wildlife, and help keep Nashville’s drinking water clean. [Nashville Scene]

🚗 NDOT’s Traffic Control Plans

The Nashville Department of Transportation is adding signal improvements to over 100 intersections to improve pedestrian safety, and neighborhood speed bumps have more than quadrupled. We’re discussing these traffic control changes during today’s Friday News Roundup. [🎧 City Cast Nashville]

Meet Dixie! (Courtesy of Wendy Rashall)

Meet Nashville’s cutest California transplant, Dixie! She’s a big baby without a mean bone in her body. Case in point: She’s frightened by a cat in this picture! Dixie loves kissing and cuddling, and was rescued from a shelter in Irvine, California. So glad you found your fur-ever home, Dixie, even if it comes with a mean scary kitty!

I’m low on pet pics for Furball Friday! I would love to share your fur-children with readers. Reply to this email with pics 🫶
