✈️ BNA’s Eminent Domain Powers
While Nashville’s mayor will retain control of choosing Metro Nashville Airport Authority members, the Tennessee Court of Appeals has upheld the eminent domain power granted by the state when they attempted to wrest control of the board. This means the airport can now legally take private property for public use if compensated, even if the owner doesn’t want to sell. [The Tennessean]
💸 Tennessee Renews CoreCivic Contract
Despite a current Department of Justice investigation, Tennessee has renewed a contract with Brentwood-based private prison operator CoreCivic to run the South Central Correctional Facility. 💧 Nashville Is … Sinking?
According to a new study, at least 20% of Nashville’s urban area is sinking due to subsidence, which most often occurs from extracting groundwater. The study looked at 28 U.S. cities, with most experiencing sinking. [The Tennessean]
