What's CITY Talking About?

🥵 It’s Getting Hot in Here

Since 1970, the average summer temperature in Davidson County has warmed by 2.5 degrees Fahrenheit. Macon and Montgomery counties showed the largest increase in Tennessee, at 2.7 degrees warmer. [Tennessee Lookout]

❓ California Governor’s Surprise Visit

🚗 Nashville Struggles To Lower Roadway Deaths

In 2022, then-Nashville Mayor John Cooper signed the Vision Zero Implementation Plan, with a goal of zero roadway deaths by 2050. While roadway deaths have decreased, there’s still a long way to go to bring that number to zero. Advocates say both infrastructure and the culture of how locals think about driving need to be addressed. [Nashville Banner]

🍼 Program Helps Nashville’s Babies and Parents

The Nashville Strong Babies program recently celebrated the first anniversary of its expansion across Davidson County. The Metro Department of Health initiative pairs expecting mothers with a care specialist to help provide essential services until the baby is 18 months. 516 families participated in this free program last year, with no infant or maternal deaths since its launch. Where Is This?

"This place is a joke. They have a speed limit on how fast you can walk (no jogging, no running). No food of any kind. Walk on loose gravel. That's the only thing offered at this park."

"THERES NO WATERFALL!!!!!"

"Littered with crayon eating hall monitor Park Rangers ... "

Furball Friday

Meet sweeties Theo (orange) and Travis (gray tabby)! Ian adopted eight-year-old Theo when his dad passed away a little over a year ago, and adopted Travis, a Norwegian forest cat, six years ago from the Dekalb County Animal Services in Georgia, where he was volunteering. While initially Travis was wary of Theo, Theo’s persistence in making friends ultimately prevailed. Theo’s party trick is when he wants to be petted, he lightly puts his paw on you. Travis’ party trick is peeing in the toilet. That’s a first! So happy to meet these kitties, who I would happily cuddle, with or without the party tricks!
