🅿️ Why Nashville hates this parking company

July 18, 2025 · — Adrian González

Hi, Neighbors! We made it — it’s City Cast editor Adrian González here to close out the the final day of our campaign launching City Cast Nashville Neighbors!

It’s been amazing to see so many of you step up to support this work. 💛 A message we keep hearing: City Cast Nashville makes this place feel more like a neighborhood. New City Cast Nashville Neighbors Mike and Sheri M. wrote in to say, “City Cast Nashville has provided us with a sense of community that we would not otherwise have here.” Mike and Sheri, we are so glad we could help.

And that’s why we’re here — to help you feel more connected, informed, and in on the local conversation. But we need your support to make it work.

Becoming a City Cast Nashville Neighbor helps us keep this thing going — and helps make our city a better place to live.

Today’s your last chance to become a founding member and get the City Cast Nashville Neighbors tote — just $10/month.

Oh, and speaking of great things in the neighborhood: Have y’all seen the new mural at the Looby Community Center? It was created by artist Elisheba Israel Mrozik and honors Z. Alexander Looby’s legacy in the Civil Rights Movement.

⚖️ MNPS Settling Lawsuit for $6.5 Million

🅿️ Troubled Parking Giant Adds AI Facial Recognition

Metropolis Technologies, the largest parking operator in the country, arrived in Nashville in 2022 and has already amassed a slew of complaints from residents about its prices and allegedly predatory practices, along with two lawsuits. The company, which uses artificial intelligence to track license plates and recently acquired AI facial recognition technology, says complaints are just part of the business. [Tennessean]

🚧 Downtown Library Could Reopen Soon

The good news: The main Nashville Library branch is set to reopen at the end of July after repairing the damage caused by a fire in its parking garage. The (maybe) bad news: Those repairs could be delayed because the single service elevator in the building is located in a heavily-damaged area. [WPLN]

Meet Lottie! (Marie Cecile Anderson / City Cast Nashville)

Here’s a little about Lottie from her human, and City Cast Nashville podcast host, Marie Cecile Anderson.

One of my New Year’s resolutions was to help foster dogs all year long from the Nashville Humane Association. Welp … I ended up adopting my very first foster, Miss Lottie. She was found in a neighboring county and brought in with hip issues and zero trust in humans. After hip surgery, and slowly earning her trust, she is now a completely different dog.

She smiles ear to ear and, being a Border Collie, she requires constant stimulation because she’s one smart girl. Huge shoutout to NHA for working their magic! I am a better human because of it. If you’re thinking about fostering, Nashville Humane is always looking for volunteers, and who knows, this small act of kindness might just change your life too.
