😞 Could NDOT have prevented this accident?
October 14, 2025 · 💌 Margaret Kingsbury
Happy Tuesday! I hope y’all had a fantastic holiday weekend. The Tennessee Titans did not — they fired head coach Brian Callahan yesterday after dropping to 1-5 with a loss to the Raiders on Sunday. Might we suggest asking our more successful local Coach Callaghan if he knows anything about American football?

🧑⚖️ The Boring Company’s ‘Extraordinary Number of Violations’
Nevada state regulators have accused The Boring Company of nearly 800 environmental violations during the construction of its tunnel network, which is similar to the company’s plans for Nashville. Violations include spilling muck and untreated water onto city streets. [City Cast Las Vegas with ProPublica]

🏘️ Housing Bills Deferred
Councilmembers have deferred two new zoning bills to November, placing them on the same timeline as three other housing bills. The council also passed a bill allowing Dolly Parton to build a gift shop by the SongTeller Hotel in exchange for a new fire department station. [Nashville Banner]

😞 NDOT Knew About Dangerous Intersection
A spring 2024 report by the Nashville Department of Transportation identified the Dickerson Pike site where a WeGo bus recently struck and killed a pedestrian as in need of safety improvements. NDOT has yet to begin those improvements, and is investigating potential short-term fixes. [Nashville Banner]
- We recently asked a councilmember and pedestrian advocate about who’s responsible for making Nashville safer for walkers. [🎧 City Cast Nashville]

The Best Gluten-Free Pizza in Nashville

I have celiac disease, which makes eating one of my favorite meals — pizza — a little bit tricky. I’ve been on a year-long quest to find the best gluten-free pizzas in Nashville, the ones that: A. don’t make me sick (sadly, several failed); and B. taste better than my preferred frozen grocery store GF pizza. Here are the results!
Emmy Squared
📍 Green Hills, The Gulch, East Nashville, Germantown
Y’all, this is, hands down, the best GF pizza I’ve ever had. You know how GF crusts are often paper-thin and taste a bit like cardboard? Or super sugary? None of that here. Emmy Squared’s deep-dish GF crust is thick, buttery, and oh-so-delicious. The only reasons I don’t eat here more are that service can be a bit slow (hard with a kid in tow), and the pizzas are on the expensive side, with a $4 GF increase.
Doughbird
📍 Green Hills
Doughbird takes second place for my favorite GF pizza in town, with a flatbread crust. It’s also a smidge expensive, with a $3 increase for GF, but they offer more variety in toppings compared to Emmy Squared.
Blaze Pizza
📍 Brentwood
At every other restaurant, GF pizzas come in only one size, and I’m stuck with a giant pizza I can’t possibly eat by myself. That’s why this is my most-visited pizza place, because you can actually order a half-size. Blaze’s GF pizza is tasty, affordable, and just the right size for me. You can pick your own toppings, and staff can change their gloves and utensils when asked to prevent cross-contamination.

Sixty Vines
📍 Downtown
My server here was very knowledgeable about celiac disease and cross-contamination. So I felt safe devouring my pizza, which was quite good, if a bit pricey. The pizza is enormous, with a flatbread crust. The restaurant’s greenery and Ryman views make it a lovely place to eat if you’re downtown.
