What's CITY Talking About

🚔 Sparse Documentation During May’s ICE Activity

Nashville Banner has inspected more than 1,700 pages of incident reports from May’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity in South Nashville, and found that the Tennessee Highway Patrol rarely documented reasons for initial traffic stops. Troopers also made rapid-fire stops, pulling people over every two minutes and twenty seconds on average during the first night of ICE operations. [Nashville Banner]

💰 Should CoreCivic Be Paid More?

Tennessee’s Department of Correction is seeking a $13 million contract increase for Brentwood-based private prison company CoreCivic, despite a recent riot at one of its facilities and a high inmate death rate. [Tennessee Lookout]

🏘️ Nashville Debates Housing Bills

Dozens of residents attended Metro Council’s Tuesday meeting to discuss four new housing bills, and seemed evenly split between those in support of the legislation and those against. The bills moved forward, but councilmembers will continue to hear arguments about them in December and January. [Nashville Banner]
