January 8, 2026 · 💌 Margaret Kingsbury

Hi friends! Slow Burn Bookshop, our first romance bookstore, opens this weekend in East Nashville! Expect author signings, giveaways, and a tattoo pop-up at their grand opening 📚

I’m gonna need to update my best indie bookstore list soon!

🚨 Nashville’s Crime Rates Drop

Last year’s violent crime rate dropped 14% compared to 2024, and robbery and burglary rates are the lowest they’ve been since the 1960s. Homicides also fell by 27.5%. These numbers mirror a national trend of declining post-pandemic crime rates. However, 58% of Nashvillians feel like crime is on the rise. [Nashville Banner]

Here are some local recommendations from City Cast Nashville members!

🛍️ Laine W.Y. has two thrift store recommendations: “Pegram’s Noah's Closet on 70 South (a program of the Cheatham County Ark Community Resource Center), and Franklin’s GraceWorks (which is similar, but much bigger, in providing funds and resources to those in need). I just went to Noah's Closet for the first time for Senior First Saturday half price, and found two wonderful items I wore immediately the next two days for work and church. Graceworks has extensive clothing, housewares, jewelry, kid’s clothes, books, and furniture. My family goes there every few months and has donated often.”

💉 Deb V. shouts out Neighborhood Health for “still offering free trivalent flu vaccinations at all clinic locations.”

Tennessee has very high flu activity according to the CDC, so now’s the time to get that vaccine if you haven’t yet!

Some sad news: While 2nd Ave. has reopened, The Melting Pot’s lease was terminated, and the restaurant will be unable to return to its old spot. They’re currently looking for a new Nashville home.
