🚁 Army helicopters at Kid Rock’s house?

Happy Tuesday! Friends of Shelby is seeking community feedback to improve Shelby Park and Bottoms. The survey is only three questions.

What's CITY Talking About
🏳️⚧️ Untold Stories of Nashville’s Queer History
Today is International Transgender Day of Visibility, and who better to share the city’s untold queer history than historian and founder of Nashville Queer History, Sarah Calise? On today’s podcast, Calise joins us to celebrate the lives of trans and queer Nashvillians from history, and the ways their courage and joy paved the way for others. [🎧 City Cast Nashville]
🪦 Remembering Our History of Enslavement
Salem Mason Drive is named after a man once enslaved by the city, and like many Nashville institutions named after historic figures from our Black history, his story is being forgotten. The Nashville City Cemetery is opening a memorial to honor the enslaved folk, like Mason, who were buried there, but more needs to be done to ensure this history and the people who lived it aren’t forgotten. 💬 Survey Evaluates Potential Language Barriers
The Metro Human Relations Commission has launched a survey to evaluate how accessible the city’s departments are to people whose primary language isn’t English. “It’s our department’s belief that one’s fluency in English should not be the determining factor in accessing government services,” says MHRC research analyst Gavin Crowell-Williamson. 🚁 Why Were Army Helicopters Flying Around Kid Rock’s House?
U.S. Army officials have ordered an investigation into the two AH-64 Apache attack helicopters that flew over Saturday’s No Kings rally before stopping at Kid Rock’s Whites Creek mansion, modeled after the White House. Videos show Kid Rock saluting the helicopters, and a helicopter moving into attack position, facing the entertainer. [NewsChannel 5]

Nashville’s Best New Restaurants and Bars in March

Hungry? Nashville has so many excellent new restaurants and bars opening every month. Here are our favorites from March!
Lost & Found
This open-air East Nashville gathering spot recently opened and has heaps of new restaurants and food trucks: QBOP! Korean BBQ, Katrin Taqueria, The Pepper Pott, Pizza Lolo, Sarabhas Creamery, Fortunate Sun, Birdie’s, and Retrograde Coffee. It’s going to be the place to hang out in this nice weather!
Soy Cubano
The popular East Nashville restaurant Soy Cubano just opened a location on the west side in The Nations! For now, its new location is only open for breakfast and lunch. Find Cuban coffee, sandwiches, and snacks.
Midnight Oil
Meanwhile, The Nations’ pizzeria Midnight Oil has opened a second location in Donelson. It’s a great place to grab a beer or cocktail with a slice of pizza and watch a game, or meet up with friends.
Rolled 4 Ever Ice Cream
My favorite ice cream truck now has a storefront inside the Nashville Farmers’ Market, where they also hold ice cream-making classes. Their ice cream is SO delicious! Make sure to grab some next time you’re at the market.
Indaco
Indigo Road Hospitality Group, based in Charleston, is opening its third Nashville restaurant in Germantown. Indaco is an Italian restaurant open for dinner nightly, and for brunch on the weekends. The menu includes artichoke pasta, braised rabbit, and lobster tortellini.
Coa
Coa is a Tulum-inspired rooftop bar and restaurant located on the Canopy by Hilton rooftop in The Gulch. Expect a modern take on Mexican cuisine, with the city’s largest agave menu. It has both indoor and outdoor eating spaces, with three terraces and an agave garden.
Cledis Burgers & Beer
This locally owned smashburger restaurant opened its fourth location in The Gulch yesterday. They serve unique takes on smashburgers, from the Skippy Thai Yay to the Bleus Brothers, and the entire restaurant is covered in newspapers, magazines, and memorabilia from the ‘80s and ‘90s. It’s one of my favorite smashburger places in town.
Present Tense
Present Tense has reopened in a new, more intimate Wedgewood-Houston location. Chef Ryan Costanza has scaled down the restaurant from 120 to 40 seats, and it now shares a building with the nightclub Flamingo. The new menu features about a dozen items that blend Japanese, French, and Italian cuisines.
