⛽ How Gas Prices Are Impacting Nashville

Local food trucks, nonprofits, and small businesses are feeling the pinch as gas prices rise. For Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, fuel prices have increased by about 30%. If gas prices continue to rise without additional support, it could impact the number of families the nonprofit serves. [Nashville Banner]

🌳 Restoring Nashville’s Tree Canopy

Tree workers are criticizing Nashville Electric Service’s process of “topping” trees — its practice of haphazardly lopping off limbs that might impact power lines — saying it weakens a tree’s ability to withstand harsh weather. But as NES steps up its tree-trimming plans in response to Winter Storm Fern criticism, some local leaders, like Mayor O’Connell, have promised to improve the city’s tree canopy. So far, about 2 million cubic yards of storm debris from fallen trees and branches have been collected. [Nashville Scene]

✈️ ICE Increases Deportation of Parents

A Nashville woman has traveled to five countries to reunite immigrant children with their deported parents. In the first seven months of Pres. Trump’s term, Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained the parents of at least 11,000 U.S. citizen children, including Misslenys Hernández Zabala, who was separated from her 10-month-old breastfeeding baby.
