🎉 The best things to do in Germantown
July 14, 2026 · – Elissa Castles
Slow down, y'all! This week, law enforcement agencies across Tennessee are ramping up patrols as part of an annual traffic campaign dubbed "Operation Southern Slow Down." The Tennessee Highway Patrol and Metro Nashville Police Department will be cracking down on speeding drivers, so be sure to stick to those posted speed limits.

✈️ Two BNA Boards Are Fighting for Control
The power struggle continues over who will govern Nashville International Airport after a state law allowed Republican lawmakers to create and appoint members of a new airport board. Metro officials argue that the existing board should remain in control. The Federal Airport Administration will not recognize either board until July 27, though BNA's CEO Doug Kruelen has said he will recognize only the state-appointed board. This dispute comes as critical decisions about the airport's future are being weighed, including a billion dollar expansion project. [🔐 The Tennessean]
👮 Metro Agency Challenges Report on Police Technology
The Metro Human Relations Commission is casting doubt on a report published last month from the nonprofit Nashville Police and Public Safety Alliance. The report claims that Nashville is lagging behind other cities by not adopting technologies like automatic license plate readers and gunshot detection systems. In an 11-page letter, MHRC called the research "fundamentally flawed," arguing it failed to fully recognize the potential harms associated with the technology, nor did it evaluate its effectiveness compared to other approaches. 🌪️ The Volunteers Keeping Nashville Weather-Ready
If you haven’t already followed them, Nashville Severe Weather is the city's go-to source when storms roll in. Run entirely by volunteers, the team has built a loyal following across social media platforms with calm, no-frills livestreams that prioritize being "prepared, not scared." As tornado activity continues shifting east toward Tennessee, their hyperlocal updates and real-time interactions have earned the trust of tens of thousands of Nashvillians. [WPLN]

RIP Joyland. Pihakis Restaurant Group, who partnered with chef Sean Brock in 2024, closed both locations over the weekend. The company is facing mounting financial troubles, including more than $23 million in lawsuits and liens. Yikes!
Speaking of struggling restaurants … word is Gordon Ramsey may be heading back to Nashville to cast for the next season of “Kitchen Nightmares.” Which local spot would you send him to?
