👀 Sen. Blackburn Was Subject of Ethics Investigation

Last year, the Senate Ethics Committee conducted a confidential investigation into allegations involving Sen. Marsha Blackburn's use of taxpayer resources during her 2024 reelection campaign. The inquiry examined claims that staff members were pressured to work on campaign activities while on taxpayer-funded time, a potential violation of Senate rules. They also reviewed taxpayer-funded travel by staff to events that may have been campaign related. It remains unclear how the investigation was ultimately resolved. [NewsChannel5]

  • Since 2002, over $100 million has been spent on Sen. Blackburn's political campaigns. In her bid for Tennessee governor this year, Blackburn has raised $9.5 million through her campaign and another $8.2 million through two political action committees. [Tennessee Lookout]

🧑‍🏫 TN Might Ease Requirements for Teacher Licensure

The Tennessee State Board of Education is considering other options for acquiring teaching licenses as the state works to address a teacher shortage. Current rules require aspiring teachers to pass a subject-area exam such as middle school math or English as a second language. Under the new proposed rule, candidates who do not pass the assessment will be able to demonstrate their subject knowledge through alternatives such as professional development modules or submitting a work sample. The board is scheduled to vote on the proposal in November. [Nashville Banner]

💈 Nashville's Worker-Owned Salon is One of a Kind

Mayday Salon Cooperative, located in East Nashville, is believed to be the only salon in the U.S. that is entirely owned and governed by its employees. Named after the International Workers' Day holiday, the worker-owned co-op shares both labor and profits with workers, makes decisions collectively, rejects traditional workplace hierarchies, and practices full transparency when it comes to business finances. Readers’ Poll: What Time Should It Be?

A wall clock with a light gray frame mounted on a red background. The white clock face has bold black Arabic numerals and black hour/minute hands, with the hour hand pointing near 2 and the minute hand pointing near 10 (about 10:10). A thin red second hand points toward 6.

This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bipartisan bill that would make daylight saving time permanent, forever eliminating the biannual clock change ritual. The legislation would also allow states to opt-out, but Tennessee has already passed a law saying it would adopt year-round daylight saving time if Congress gave the green light. So that got us wondering: If you had a say, what would you choose?

Should daylight saving time be permanent?

This little sweetie's name is Remy. Originally a stray from Donelson, his mamma adopted him from Metro Animal Care and Control and he’s since become a lover of all things local. "Whether it's chewing up lambchop after lambchop from Spot's Pet Supply, exploring Shelby Park, wearing his Myer's chainstitch bandana, or riding the Music City Brew Hop trolley, Remy has really taken on his city in a way that makes his human mother proud. His story and he himself are a reminder that despite how things may look, you never know how life will surprise you."

Okay Remy, I'm obsessed with you and just love you to pieces already!
