What's CITY Talking About
🥬 An Insider’s Guide to Nashville’s Farmers Markets
Nashville’s farmers markets are in full swing, and with so much dodgy produce floating around, that’s probably a good thing. On today’s podcast, we’re revisiting our conversation with the Nashville Food Project's Rebecah Boynton to talk about the city's best farmers markets and how to navigate them like a pro. 🚽 Will Downtown Get Public Restrooms?
The Nashville Downtown Partnership and Pillars Development are seeking feedback on where to put public restrooms downtown. The restrooms will be funded through a state grant and must be approved by Metro Council before construction begins. Nashvillians can learn more and give feedback at a public meeting on Aug. 11, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Downtown Presbyterian Church. [🔐 The Tennessean]

🧑⚖️ Local Nonprofit Shuts Down
A nonprofit that serves about 400 Tennessee children is shutting down its offices in Nashville and Memphis as a result of the Trump administration’s decision to withhold grant payments. Mid-South Immigration Advocates provides legal aid to children who enter the U.S. without a parent or legal guardian. [Tennessee Lookout]
- Meanwhile, the Trump administration has ended Temporary Protected Status and work permits for Haitian and Syrian immigrants, impacting thousands of people in Tennessee. [Nashville Banner]
🏥 Uninsured Patients Increase at Local Hospitals
Enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies for discounted health insurance expired at the end of 2025. Since then, Nashville-based HCA Healthcare — the nation’s largest for-profit hospital chain — has seen a bigger impact than expected. ER visits have increased, inpatient and outpatient surgeries have decreased, and hospitals are seeing more uninsured patients. [Axios Nashville]
- Tennessee was recently ranked among the worst states in the nation for affordable, high-quality healthcare. [🔐 The Tennessean]

⏰ Time Change
According to our recent poll, the vast majority of you — 60% — want Tennessee to make daylight saving time permanent. Y’all are tired of time changes! A bill to do so is currently pending in the U.S. Senate, and if passed, Tennessee will automatically implement permanent daylight saving time.
🍷 Where To Find Wine
After a recent podcast episode about the best places for wine in Nashville, a listener called in with more recommendations: “Antoinette’s Wine + Provisions (West) and Spread Market & Larder (Germantown). Both have a fantastic selection of wine to enjoy onsite or to-go, knowledgeable owners, and are genuinely good neighborhood adds from fellow Nashvillians.”
🧒 Downtown Nashville With Kids
On our July monthly podcast guide, I talked about exploring downtown with my kid, and how I would need to go during the week to avoid weekend tourist crowds. Downtown resident and listener E.D. set me straight with heaps of recs! Here are some of them:
- “The 10:30 a.m. gospel service at Robert’s Western World.
- 2nd Avenue is fully open again, and tucked in the alleyway behind the blue awnings at 138 is a dog statue. Also a kid might find the crosswalks at 2nd and Commerce fun because they're painted like piano keys.
- Walk past the Woolworth Theatre on 5th for a conversation about the (ongoing) Civil Rights struggle. It would be a shame to miss the newly reinvigorated Arcade after all those years of desolation.
- And the day could end or begin with a walk past Fort Nashborough. It looks like a replica of a Disney film set to me, but if I were eight, it might be pretty cool.”
🍽️ Old Nashville
Pam W. says she misses Tin Angel from Old Nashville most. “Oh the ambiance! The food was a level up from most restaurants back in the day. We remember hours of wine and food, and stimulating conversations at a coveted window table. Parking was a mind-bending challenge but worth multiple attempts squeezing into a tiny opening behind the restaurant. Forever in our hearts and minds you will remain, Tin Angel.”
