📚 It’s Imagination Library Month
Mayor Freddie O’Connell has proclaimed September Imagination Library Month in Nashville in honor of the legend’s impact on childhood literacy. Parton launched the Imagination Library in 1995, and every year the program distributes more than 500,000 books to 50,000 kids in Middle Tennessee. Nashville Public Library’s Begin Bright program partners with the Imagination Library to put libraries in 69 local childcare centers. [WPLN]

🛫 Noisy Departures Causing Problems in South Nashville
Some South Nashville residents have formed a group called Course Correct Nashville and are petitioning the Federal Aviation Administration to reconsider departures at Nashville International Airport and see if alternative routes could be found to avoid noise-sensitive areas. The FAA added departure headings last year to give air traffic controllers more options for dispersing aircraft. Residents say departures often occur every few minutes. [WKRN]
🕌 Neighbors Show Support for Mosque
Community members are rallying behind 12 South’s Islamic Center of Nashville, one of the state’s oldest mosques, after a white nationalist targeted the center earlier this summer. “We’ve got to stand up for our friends,” said long-time neighbor CJ Hicks. “[I]t’s important to show the support that comes after the hate,” Rashed Fakhruddin, the mosque’s director of outreach and community engagement, said. “That emotional support is so important. Otherwise people feel alone.” [Nashville Banner]
