What's CITY Talking About
🍽️ Saying Goodbye to O’Charley’s
O’Charley’s locations suddenly closed this week, giving little notice to employees. The Nashville-based chain launched in 1971, becoming a household dinner staple for many. We’re talking about the closure on today’s Friday News Roundup, plus we discuss Zoolumination’s cancellation, an FBI investigation impacting a Metro department, and our favorite weekend events. 🏘️ What Is Considered Affordable Housing?
A proposed affordable housing development, Skyline Heights, will have 280 units with income restrictions set at no greater than 60% of Nashville’s area median income. The developer projects that rents will range from $1,457 to $2,171 per month, depending on the number of bedrooms, which is well below HUD’s Fair Market Rent benchmark. The Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency has recommended a 10-year property tax incentive for the project. [Fox 17]
- Trinity Community Commons also plans to repurpose an East Nashville church into affordable housing. [🎧 City Cast Nashville]
✈️ Flight Changes Impact South Nashville Neighborhoods
The City of Oak Hill and several South Nashville neighborhood groups have filed a lawsuit against the Federal Aviation Administration, challenging flight changes incorporated in late 2025. The lawsuit argues that the FAA failed to consider how repeated flights over these neighborhoods would affect the community and Radnor Lake State Park. According to residents, planes often fly over every three to five minutes. “We went from fairly quiet, peaceful neighborhoods to a very severe change in noise levels because of this change,” says Crieve Hall Neighborhood Association president Kelly Insana. 🧑⚖️ Welcome to Youth Court
At Youth Court, Metro Nashville Public Schools students consider juvenile court cases involving lower-level offenses, from shoplifting to curfew violations, and help determine consequences. Students involved in the program receive training from local leaders and can advocate for the kids on trial. “We can fight for them from our point of view,” says Pearl-Cohn High School senior Mikhai Moshay. Fewer than 4% of kids whose cases are heard in Youth Court return to the juvenile justice system. [NewsChannel 5]

Furball Friday

Buck’s humans adopted this bucket-of-love from the Williamson County Animal Center in July. He’s just under two years old and loves to meet new friends (two- and four-legged alike). He’s eager to please and always ready to give lots of kisses. His humans moved to Franklin from Chicago in May, and they were set on adopting a dog. When his mom saw an Instagram post featuring Buck in a World Cup soccer top, she knew he was perfect for her family.
What a wonderful adoption story! If you have a furry friend you’d like to share with readers, email me a photo!
