What's CITY Talking About
👀 The Candidates Involved in a Prostitution Bust
Both District 5 congressional candidates have been tied to a prostitution investigation in Columbia. But how? We’re talking about it on today’s Friday News Roundup. Plus, why an 18-wheeler crashed into an East Nashville Aldi, Gallatin Pike improvements, and what we’re up to this weekend. [🎧 City Cast Nashville]
💸 Local Resources for Immigrants Dwindle
More than 40,000 migrants who crossed the southern border between 2018 and 2025 settled in the Nashville area. But many local social services related to resettlement and immigration have closed amid federal funding cuts. In the latest service disruption, TennCare access for people here legally as refugees and asylum seekers will end on Oct. 1. While local nonprofits still operating seek alternative funding, immigrant families try to help and welcome newcomers. [Nashville Banner]
- Fear of deportation is keeping many local immigrant construction workers off job sites, creating a worker shortage that will likely lead to delays and higher costs. "My labor is wanted, but I'm not wanted," said one immigrant construction worker. [Nashville Scene]
🏘️ Disaster Recovery Funding From the 2020 Tornado
After six years, Metro Council has approved the next step for Nashville to use more than $10.8 million in federal disaster recovery funding from the March 2020 tornado. The funding will go toward creating 40 affordable homes in areas impacted by the tornado, rehabilitating five vacant homes, and providing weather-related upgrades to 50 homes. [Fox 17]
♨️ Too Hot To Handle
While fall is just days away, Nashville’s record-breaking high temperatures continue thanks to a heat dome over the area. Normal highs in September average in the low-to-mid 90s, but our current highs will hover in the 99 range for the next few days. Almost 60% of Davidson County residents are affected by drought. Furball Friday

Meet Winston! This 4 ½-year-old corgi enjoys playing with his brother, Grinch (a Chihuahua mix), and helping with household tasks that don’t really require a dog, such as gardening and loading the dishwasher. He’s extremely funny and loves anyone, as long as you give him treats, of course.
Winston, I’ve got a bag of treats with your name on it!
